Mercury Toxicity and its effects on the brain and the body.

These are the different locations in which mercury can have significant impact depending upon what type of mercury it is. Notice the basal ganglia, in which the grey and white matter reside, are targets.  Also, two different types of mercury target the kidneys resulting in renal system problems.  Kidneys are a target for a variety of metals that are not biologically available to us. 

Mercury causes problems with vision, our sensory pathways, ataxia(loss of muscle control of hands, arms, legs, fingers, body, eyes, and speech), tremors, mental disturbances, hyperhidrosis(excessive sweating), ballism(rapid, vigorous movements of limbs), Atheosis(worm like movements), as well as many other symptoms.

Extensive studies were conducted from the poisoning of Minamata Bay in Japan of mercury.  These are the resuolts of some of those studies from Kunamoto University in Japan.
